Torrents for Begginers
By thugware
Torrents are ways of downloading media more quickly and effectively. Though to the beginner it seems absolutely hopeless to download those files. A lot of you must be wondering "How do i open this .torrent file", "Where do i go to get these files." or even "Why isn't this torrent downloading." Well to begin you are going to need a torrent client (If you don't already have one). There are multiple different clients that you can get, such as utorrent, bittorrent and even Frostwire has these capabilities. Go and download one of those programs install it on your computer and then you are ready to start using the program.
Ok so now you have your client. What now? Where do we go from here? Well there are various different websites that you can go to. One of them being one of the more popular and more untrustworthy websites, http://www.thepiratebay.org is a websites filled with torrents some of them not being legal downloads and some of them even being malicious programs and viruses. Be careful when downloading from here there is a lot of junk that gets posted up there. Another website i highly recommend is http://www.demonoid.me/ this is one requires a invitation so it filters out a lot of junk. I highly recommend this site. If you need an invite to demonoid just follow me on twitter and send me a message.
So now you have the client and have the websites now lets start downloading. So lets say we are at the pirate bay looking at a torrent for Open Office. On the torrent information it says Seeders and Leechers. What does that mean? How does that effect my download? Well Seeding is basically hosting the file on your computer for others to go in and take small copys of the file. The more seeders there are the faster the download is going to be. Leechers are the people that are pulling the small copys of the files from the seeders. So the more seeders the more time it will take to download. So you want a higher seed than leech ratio. So Seeders > Leechers always.
Cool so you download your .torrent file and it opens in your client where it begins to download the files. Once its complete you see that it is seeding out. You can stop this if you want. But preferably people want you to seed since you gained benefit from it. If you have any questions just hit me up on my Twitter.
